Idea's for our Print Advert

We played around with many poster idea's using screne grabs from our documentary and then going out and taking pictures ourselves of things that we believed related to our documentary. We had a look at different types of slogans and tag-lines to see which one fitted well and related most to our documentary.

We took many photos of this couple who our friends of ours, and we asked them to help us out and be in photos for our documentary attraction and they really wanted to and for very keen to help. as we thought they look really good together and our both very photogenic and fun, we like the way they both contrast in the fact her hair is bright red and his bleach blonde, however in all their photos they look nice together, loved up and having a nice romantic time. We asked them to change outfits and change styles to see which one looked best and worked well and looking most proffesional.

We took many pictures to do with attraction for example; kissing, looking into each other eyes and holding hands. We also played around with changing Hayleys hair from straight to curly and changing their clothes to see what colours worked best. As a group we decided on the picture we believed to be the most relevant to our documentary and eye catching. The picture must be also similar to other channel 4 print adverts (These are shown above and below) and we believed the picture was similar to others.

Log Sheets, Edit decision List & Music

Edit Decision List:

Logging sheets:

Music choice:
We decided that as our documentary is about attraction and love, so we should use a piece of music that is very moving and lyrically relates to our piece. After looking on many different websites including www.youtube.com and www.itunes.com we found a piece of music which we believe to be appropriate for our documentary. As the lyrics relate to attraction and relationships ‘Let’s get together, baby’ ‘wanna hold you, get to know you’ we believe this would flow well with the subject of attraction. As the music is not in the charts or well known we believed that the song could be unique to our documentary as no other documentary has used this piece. The fact that the song is exciting, modern and upbeat means it suited our piece bringing it to life whilst also making it exciting and interesting. The music is also very loud, and memorable, making people want to watch it.

Narrative Script

Narrative for Media documentary
--Intro—Narrative: There are many theories, myths, laws, explanations about it, everybody knows and has heard about it- through the media, books, magazines and love songs No-one knows exactly what causes it, but attraction is the one factor that is make or break in any relationship. It completely overrides and takes over your life, and it’s certainly not something that can be learned with time. - but do we know the reasons behind attraction, do we no why and how we are attracted to certain people, by different theories, beliefs and ideas that are put forward about it.
Attraction and Love Why are we attracted to certain people? Is it their features, personality, looks, body shape, fashion sense? What is it? - Nobody seems to be very clear about it or understand it-but we all no it’s their, and according to 96% of you, you want to no more!

--PowerPoint of questions, in white font focused on a black screen as they are being said—Narrative: Many questions have been raised and asked about attraction:
-Why are we attracted to certain people?
-What is attraction?
-What are the physiological reasons behind it
- How do we no when we are attracted to someone?

Narrative: WHY ARE WE ATTRACTED TO CERTAIN PEOPLE?
--Shots of fox pops of the public answering what their attracted to people—

Narrative: Attraction is positive and warm feelings towards another individual- it refers to many experiences such as: crushes, fancying, liking an individual, admiring, lust and most importantly love.
There are three main key factors relating to attraction:

1) Physical attraction-like the famous saying ‘first impressions are the ones that count’-As you first look at and think of the word attraction what really crosses your mind? Physical and body features are probably the first conscious thought of attraction that crosses your mind. it is a special quality in a person that inspires fascination in others. It is a characteristic that provides pleasure and attracts –show photos/clips (archive) of couples looking at each other--

2) Similarities- It is about familiarity, trust, security, so the person is going to remind you of your parents or siblings as much as you yourself, sounds weird but it’s very true. ‘Birds of a feather flock together’ this famous phrase represents the similarities within a couple. Scientifically you are attracted to someone who is similar to you, have similar likes and dislikes, similar taste, similar features. –cheesy funny clips/photo’s (archive) of similar couples—

3) Reciprocity- --mutual feelings, clips (archive) footage—

Planning- Filming/Editing Diary

Filming Diary

Day 1- We went to Warrington town centre to film our vox pops of different people of different ages asking them ‘what do you find attractive in a person?’ We asked about 30 people to get a variety of answers. We just wanted a single answer or a few words such as 'boys with blue eyes'. Most of the people that wanted to be filmed were of a younger teenage audience, we filmed quite a lot of answers but we would like a range of generations so that it shws variety, as some of the answers woul be to inappropriate and some others were cut to short for us to edit of.

Day 2- We went to town again to film more vox pops, unfortunately we didn’t get as many as day 1 due to bad weather and people didn’t want to be filmed as it was cold and town was quite quiet, however we got enough to put on our docuentary as we only want about ten vox pops, so that it doesnt take up too much time but is entertaining and interesting. We got some funny answers, with interesting and serious answers which makes it more interesting and enjoyable to watch.

Day 3- We filmed our first interview in Natalie’s house, we gave it a nice, short, homely and cute feel as we squashed the frame in and filmed a married couple on a couch to make it simple and all the focus was on the couple. It was of a younger couple, who have been together for a long time and are pregnant at the moment, showing the love and attraction between them. They were holding hands and hugging each other which made the scene even better, however when it came to edit we dicided not to put this interview in our documentary as some of the answers didn't match up and sounded abit un proffesional.

Day 4- We filmed a second interview of an older couple to give a variety of age groups, which shows difference in generation and difference in divorce, marriage, widow and single people. This couple worked perfectly they were a married couple in their late 40's, we had no background behind them just them sat on a simple coach making all the attention on the couple.

Day 5- We also filmed Natalie’s Nan who was a widower; however it didn’t work so well and took up too much time in the documentary so we deleted it, as the answers lasted to long, and when we cut some of the answer out it did not match up and sounded dodgey and wouldn't fit in with our piece.

Day 6- we filmed a third interview with two lesbians who met in college, so we filmed them in college asking questions about their relationship and how they met, which relates to the place that we filmed it and is relevant. We chose to interview lesbians as it shows a variety of sexes and ages, so that more people will want to watch it as it's not stereo-typed and shows a variety of people.

Day 7- - We searched around on the internet, itunes and music that is out today in the charts to find some songs that we could use on the introduction of our piece, we came across one with lyrics that would relate to attraction, it was upbeat, loud and fresh making our documentary seem that way also, it is also a song that has not been released in the charts before, so it would be quirky and represent just this attraction documentary.

Day 8- We captured all our archive footage of people kissing, holding hands, from films, TV programmes such as; skins, eastenders, friends, inbetweeners etc, to make it entertaining as well, and shows footage that is of the theme of our documentary. We then cut it all down and put it in an order that would flow well with our music.

Day 9-
we filmed cut a way’s of people holding hands, walking, kissing, hugging-to add in over the narration and over certain parts of the interview.
After we got archive footage we filmed a physiologist in college, giving in depth answers and details about attraction, telling us the physiological reasons behind attraction. We filmed it in front of a computer in a small room, making it look professional; she was also wearing a red suit which relates to the them of love and
passion relating to our documentary.

Day 10-
We found a suitable person to do our voice-over, we chose a girl who has a well spoken voice so that everyone can relate to her and understand what she is talking about, se has a loud, clear and bubbly voice, making i more enjoyable to listen to and more entertaining and fun. We recorded her in the red room, so that all we could here was her, with no background sounds, making it more proffesional. We wrote a script out so that she would say the exac correct things and then we coud edit it down and move it into the correct places.

Day 11- After we had captured all of our fiming, we inported it to Adobe Premire were we began to edit it all together. Our order of editing and shot numbers are all on our Edit Disicion List.

Editing Diary

1st- We captured all of the filming from our tape and put it imported it into adobe premier, so we could begin to edit our documentary together. Once it was all on the computer we watched all the clips we filmed though twice to make sure everything was ok, such as the sound and camera angles.

2nd- After we had done this, some things we had filmed we decided that we didn’t need and should probably be deleted, because they were boring, not needed, or wrong camera angles. We firstly deleted the interview with an older widowed lady as it went on for a long time and would of took up half of our documentary, it also didn’t seem very interesting or entertaining which was a big disappointment. After we removed this we then had to delete some of our vox pops, as some of the answers were inappropriate and rude, also two of our vox pops camera angles were incorrect and could not be fixed so we dicided to delete them.

3rd- We had an interview with a younger couple, who were going out for many years since they were teeangers, the women was also pregnant, we thought it was reallt entertaining and very funny, however the camera angle and mise en scene was all very wrong on adobe premire so we thought we should delete it as we wanted it to be as proffessional as possible.

Day 4- We got all of our interviews together and as we had dicided to ask them the same/similar questions, and we cut of questions and small scenes that did not fit in and would also shorten the opening down, we had two interviews One with a married couple and another with a lesbian couple, we thought this was really unsual and quirky, it all flowed well and was really funny. We cut all the interviews down so that no questions were heard being asked, and so that everything was cut down to be proffesional as it could be, some questions from next questions did not flow properly and the shot angle was a different angle due to cutting the questions being asked out, so we added a cross dissolve between some clips which made it look reallt proffesional.

Day 5- We got archive footage and then added it to our beginning opening, we got clips from skins, eastenders, coronation street and popular programmes and we chose scenes of couples kissing and in love. We then placed this into the beginning of our opening which made it fun, sexy and entertaining.

Day 6- We then put all our vox pops together, and cut them all down, so all was seen was head and shoulders, so we cut the big backgrounds and distracting pieces out-this was how the proffesionals do it. We then put them in an order of how we wanted them to be placed together-we added the vox pops so that it makes our documentary more entertaining and funny to watch.

Day 7- We thought that as our documentary interviews went on for a long time, we should add some cut a ways over the top to make it more interesting-Throughout the lesbian interview we added small clips of them relating to what they were saying on screen of them hugging, kissing and having fun making it look more entertaining. Throughout the older married couple we added cut a ways of photos from when they were younger-showing about their life and about how happy they were and how happy they are now, giving a happy emotion across to the audience.

Day 8- We did all our graphics and animations, we tryed all sorts such as lips kissing the screen which we thought was really good and worked well, which looked fun, sexy text, we made all of our text the same colour and size so that it all fitted well and looked simple and didn't take any of the focus of our visuals but the text still matched them.
