Codes and Conventions of Print Adverts

I have studyed many Print adverts on the internet and looking through magazines, this was to give me an inisight into what the codes and conventions of print adverts are. I have been mainly focusing on channel 4 print adverts, this is because our documentry will be featured on channel 4. Posters such as Skins, Britians forgotten children, Hollyoaks etc, our poster that we have created reflects these in many ways.

Codes and Conventions of Print adverts:

-Always has a logo

-Shows what channel it is on, usualy with the channel recognisable symbol.

-Dates and times-audience no exactly hat to look for.

-One releant, eye catching image- Makes a statement, is bold and leaves an impact on the audience.

-Grabs peoples attention.

-Has a big impact on the audience.

-Noticable/creative.

-Limited texts, only afew words-not to distracting.

-Text is bold and stands out-bu does not take all the attention of the main photo.

-Slogan or tag line is often used.

Below are some Channel 4 posters, which symbolise all these codes and conventions of print adverts.

Through looking and analyising these posters, i have found out that they always use a main, central, eye catching image-which creates impact on the audience and is always very hard hitting making you want to watch the programme they are advertising-always relating to the title of the programme in an unusual and quirky way.
The text is always printed at the bottom wih a white boarder around it-making it stand ou and easy visable but not distracting from the image- it always says the time/date of programme and the name, with an edgy unusual catchy slogan line.
The channel four logo is always placed in the centre on the right hand side, so that its recognisable and obvisous to a channel 4 print advert.
Through doing this we created our own Channel 4 print advert for our documentary, we took our own photo and edited it to make it as good as possible, we created all of this on photoshop and we think it represents channel 4 and relates to our documentary very well.
