Primary and Secondary Research

Primary and Secondary Research

Primary research
-We will use Vox pops in the town centre, to show the public’s view on what they believe cause attraction and why they are attracted to certain people, we will interview a variety of people of all age, genders, and sex this will give our documentry a broader audience and get all differnt feedback responces.
-We will interview professionals 'experts' who can tell us the real physiological reason for why we are attracted to people; this makes the documentary factual so there for it is more interesting. We will interview her in a classroom, giving the audience a sence of realism which is very common in documentarys, we will also film her in day time, so it's all natural lightening and sounds. Our proffesional physocologist was dressed in a red outfit this related to the theme of love and attraction as red represents love.
-We will interview many couples, but only select two or three main ones to go on our documentry, we will interview different types and relationship status's of couples; married, divorced, dating, widowed etc, this will give different answers and a different range of answers.
-We will interview our married couple at home, so it looks homely and shows they have a strong bond and strong connection in the home. Younger couples who are dating we will interview in college/school to show that many relationships blossom from a young age and are childhood sweethearts.
-We will use archive footage of familiar programmes that many people will no, this will mae our documentary move varied and add extra information for the audience to engage for.

Secondary research
We will use newspaper articles that we can find on the psychological reasons for attraction. Also we will show articles on this subject. There is a lot of information on the internet about the real reason for attraction. This will help us back up our evidence showing many different professional psychologist views. We will also get Archive footage from places like www.youtube.com and other documentaries that address the real reasons for attraction. We will get many clips from programmes such as Skins, Eastenders, The Inbetweeners, etc which relates to a younger audience which is what our documentry is aimed at These clips will also make it more entertaining and humorous.

We also looked at websites and articals posted on the internet founded by many differnt people, experts and researchers, to find out reasons and laws about attraction. Websites (such as the ones listed below) have been very useful to us in our secondary research, they gave us inspiration, ideas, and knowlege about attraction, helping us come up with ideas and reasons around attraction for our final documentry piece.

Research of the internet (notes):

WHAT IS ATTRACTION?
----No-one knows exactly what causes it, but attraction is the one factor that is make or break in any relationship. It completely overrides your mental check-list for your ideal mate (religion, education…), and it’s certainly not something that can be learned with time.
----Pheromones are chemicals you emit without even knowing – they’re like odourless scents that trigger sexual responses in others. They are probably responsible for attracting the biologically perfect partner for you – signalled by that feeling of sexual attraction. It’s quite literally chemistry!
The sexual area of the brain reacts to these chemicals in quite different ways to ordinary scents. For example, for men, women’s pheromones activate the hypothalamus (the region of the brain that controls sexual behaviour and the hormones), but has no effect on women. Meanwhile, for women, the male chemical stimulates the hypothalamus. And interestingly enough, gay men respond sexually to male pheromones in the same way as women do.
----Genes are also to blame for the seemingly shallow factors that seem to catch the opposite sex’s attention. There’s actually a biological reason why men honestly can’t help being attracted to women with full lips, slim bodies, smooth skin and glossy hair. Men are wired to interpret these as signs of youth and health, which indicates that the woman is a prime baby-making machine.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?
----Some people claim that it happened to them and it was like you raise your head, meet those eyes and tell yourself “It is He/She!”. Psychologists say that love at first sight depends on our psychological state at the moment. In some case we won’t even notice those charming eyes in another they can make a lasting impression on as. Also they say that it takes about 30 seconds to fall in love or precisely speaking to estimate whether the person is worth to fall in love with. By the way psychologists claim that men fall in love first.
----Very many factors act in the situation of falling in love from the first sight. These are our ideals, intuition or “fast logic”, imagination etc. When you fall in love at the first sight you are usually ready and willing to fall in love. Less possibility that it will happen if you are tired, stressed, solving problems in you mind. Of cause the main part in falling in love is given to the appearance, voice, gestures, smell. One person intuitively searches in the other the qualities and the feature to complete him/herself. Of causes beautiful people attract attention the most, but sometimes it’s wrong to fall in love with them easily because those people are experiencing much attention from the people of the other sex all the time and your delightful reaction may simply have no answers.

Physological reasons behind attraction....

‘The psychology of attraction is a very intriguing topic effectively determining the laws of attraction, the rules of getting drawn to certain people, the basis of friendships and also the success of relationships. Attraction is a social, biological and evolutionary process. We are attracted to certain people due to social reasons as we may be able to establish social rapport with such individuals. When there is a reinforcement of positive social responses between certain individuals with repeated interaction, feelings of liking and lust, attraction may develop along with a sense of being comfortable with each other developing a sense of familiarity. However just as a sense of familiarity gives rise to attraction, in some cases strangeness or the urge to know someone can also lead to attraction.’

Body Language
-A woman's body language signals are naturally concerned with displaying her abilities to bear a child. Physically, women normally possess fuller lips, softer skin, thinner eyebrows and the absence of facial hair. Compared to a man, a woman's waist is narrower, her pelvis is broader and her legs are more slender.
-A man's character can be revealed by his preferences in a woman's breasts, her bottom, or legs. It is said that if a man likes a smaller backside he is considered to be intellectual introvert. If however, he is aroused by the sight of large breasts then he is likely to be a sporty extrovert.

Physical Attractiveness
"Beauty is only skin deep." Well, it seems that initially it is more than that. Many studies have led to the idea that physical attractiveness draws people to one another. Although most psychologists agree that physical appearance affects the level of attraction between two people, they are in disagreement with deciding why this is such. Some suggest that people are attracted to a "better-looking" person because being associated with "beautiful" people enhances our social standing and self-esteem. Others suggest that men are attracted to women for biological reasons. That is, men seek women who are physically attractive because those physical qualities seem to be associated with youth and fertility. Regardless of the justifications, it is apparent that physical attractiveness plays a significant role in attraction between people.

Similarity
This idea does not say that soccer players will marry soccer players. Instead, it makes claims that those interested in sports are attracted to those interested in sports. Statistics show that people who pair off do so according to similarities in race, age, religion, education, physical characteristics, and other general characteristics.

Familiarity
One of the major reasons proximity creates liking is that it increases familiarity. Generally speaking, the more a person interacts with another person, the more attraction builds between them.
The closer two people live to each other the more likely it is for them to like one another. Research has shown that the best single predictor of whether two people are friends is how far apart they live. This idea leads into the next one.
